Bottle Bottle

I didn't know what to title this. Fruit and bottles? still life table? Annoying thing? So I figured that the two focus areas are the two bottles in front. Bottle bottle. This is also a joke for those of you who have played the game Munchkins, more specifically Space Munchkins. Hee hee. Bottle bottle must die.

Anyway, obscure jokes aside, this was my latest project in painting class. We had to do a still life. We set up a cart filled with assorted plastic fruits and bottles. I think there's a tea pot in the back, too. We then had to choose a style from a specific artist. I chose American Realism, specifically a piece called "Shed Lantern" by Andrew Wyeth. It was one of the random posters my art teacher showed us while we were choosing our styles.

Shed Lantern is a fairly interesting painting. See, it's mostly abstract art. You can't really tell what anything really is, except for one thing done in realism. A lamp. Then the blob on top suddenly becomes rafters and an overhang. The odd texture on the side suddenly becomes rough wood. It's basically abstract art that tricks your eye into believing that it's realism. I clearly don't have that same skill, but that's what I was using to base this off of.

The entire picture is also made using neutrals. In fact, in Shed Lantern, there are only different colors of brown. There is no other real color. Unfortunately, I couldn't resist giving at least some color to the bright blue bottle on the table, and then I kinda sort of gave everything else color in an attempt to balance it. I did dull everything down, though, so that's a plus.

After doing the bottles, I also started relaxing into my normal habit of realism being only a little loose before my teacher caught me. She then proceeded to give me a brush stroke limit. I could only use X amount of brush strokes to make Y. Thus some of the fruit looks really weird, but that's what I get for choosing a style that's half realism and half abstract. Stupid red pepper only allowed five brush strokes... Grr...

Anyway, I hope you enjoy my attempt at abstract art! This was made using acrylics.
