Burnt Passion

Description

I hate abstract art. I don't seem to be half bad at making it, though, once I've let go of trying to make things more realistic. I'm pretty sure my art teacher is intent on beating abstract art into my skull. I still don't like it. Therefore, although this piece fit the exact requirements and turned out fairly well all things considered, I really don't like it.

We had to section off the background into three different sections. One section was a gradation of two analogous colors. The next section would be a cool color with a shade added to it. The last section would be a tint of a color you've already used.

After finishing the background, I had a burning flame next to a soft pink. It made the thought, "Burning passion" pop into my head. I then decided to make the flowers be kind of a love story. (We had to pick a mood or story to reflect with the flowers by merely changing the brush strokes and the colors, not the content of the picture.) Well, I've never had any sort of good luck with romance and any sort of crush usually ends in loss and heart ache with the boy completely oblivious to what happened. I'm sure one day I'll get my chance, but trying to convey a romantic love when you've never had one successfully happen tends to make the picture a mirror image of your own experiences.

When I first finished, my art teacher was like, "Those are some angry flowers. It's almost like a relationship went horribly wrong." After brief consideration, I concluded that I conveyed my experiences on romantic love quite well, all things considered. Heheh. ^^'

Oh, and partway through, I accidentally let paint splat randomly on the pink. After brief consideration, I decided to make it look intentional, which is why there are now leaves and petals falling from the flowers. Judging the mood I decided on, this is also quite fitting.

This was made with acrylic paint and was painted using pallet knives as part of the assignment. Enjoy the abstract-ness.
