Let the game begin by Shells124 Let the game begin by Shells124
This was the first project we had in painting that wasn't just a paint mixing/blending exercise. The project was that we had to pick a starting color (I picked ultramarine blue.) and we had to paint the entire picture using only shades or tints of that color. Basically, in order to create value, the only thing we could do was add either black or white to the one color. Then we had to take a black and white photo, sketch it, and paint it. o.O

As you can imagine, this took me forever. I went around my house taking a bunch of black and white photos and came down to only two I liked. One was a close up of my piano's keys. The other was one that I took of my glass chess set. Well, I liked the chess set better, but I took one look at in and said, "This is going to take me forever!" Then my painting teacher made the decision for me because she didn't like the lack of detail in the piano picture and made me do the chess set picture. A long time later, and I have finally finished it. Over a week after it was due.

Not my fault. Not really, anyway. I knew it was going to take me a while, and I was already kind of rushing. I had just gotten the basic sketch done when the teacher said, "Oh, yeah! This is due in two days!" ..... What.... I'm sorry, but that's impossible. Only maybe five people in the class got it done on time. Or something like that. It was pretty crazy.

So, I just took the painting home and finished it there. I have discovered, though, that acrylics are way more difficult to work with than oil paints. I was finding that my paint kept drying on my paintbrush while I was painting with it, or I would mix a perfect tint and try to paint with it when it would dry on my pallet before I could even use it. Acrylics can be really quite irritating. I'm slowly getting used to it, though. Slowly.

Anyway, so yeah. This was made with acrylics.

This is really neat! Seriously, the blue effect is awesome, and the highlighs make it look so real!
